Elroy received his education at the St. Vincent Grade School and attended Washington High School. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from October 1, 1950 to October 1, 1952.
Elroy was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Schwoeppe November 15, 1952 at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church in Concord Hill, MO. The couple made their home in Dutzow.
Elroy owned and operated Schwiessguth Brothers Inc. in Dutzow and Union with his sons. He was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, the Marthasville American Legion, the Washington VFW and the Washington Elks. He had served on the boards for the VFW, the Elks and the Hospital Advisory Board. Elroy had also been Elk of the year in the past. He enjoyed boating, bowling, horseshoes and barbecuing in his free time and especially spending time at his lake house.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, Luke Hoerstkamp.
He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen Schweissguth of Dutzow; four sons, Bob Schweissguth and wife Kathy of Washington, MO, Burt Schweissguth and wife Kelly of Dutzow, MO,Dave Schweissguth and wife Pat of Washington, MO, Mike Schweissguth and wife Nancy of Dutzow; one daughter, Barb Schweissguth of Washington, MO; fourteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday December 26, 2018 at 1 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Marthasville, MO with Rev. Eugene Robertson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the KWVA (Korean War Veteran’s Association) or St. Vincent de Paul School.
The Schweissguth family was served by the Oltmann Funeral Home in Washington, MO.
Elroy Carl Schweissguth was born June 24, 1931 in Dutzow, MO; the son of the late Theophil Schweissguth and his wife Clara nee` Ellermann. He passed away Friday December 21, 2018 at the age of 87 years.
