The St. Charles County Parks and Recreation Department is kicking off the fall season with free fall fun from 6–8:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 21, at Broemmelsiek Park near Defiance. Join us for FREE hayrides, a concert, smores by the campfire, a corn maze and an educational stargazing program! Everyone is welcome to attend this special event in the park!
Beginning at 6 p.m., participants will kick up their heels to the harmonious sounds of The People’s band. This local group has been together for over 20 years and will be performing a variety of Bluegrass, Folk, Old Country and Western music. While the band is playing, guests can take an amazing adventure through our challenging 3-acre corn maze. Or enjoy a short hayride and then huddle around a glowing campfire to enjoy a yummy s’mores marshmallow treat. The fun doesn’t stop there! If the sky is clear when the sun goes down and the stars come up, we’ll continue into the night at our Astronomy Viewing Area. Join the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri (ASEM) to view stars and constellations at our Friday Night Public Stargazing program.
What’s up Next on the Agenda? Group Hayrides!
Autumn officially begins the next day and so does our annual hayride season at Broemmelsiek Park. From Saturday, Sept. 22 thru Sunday, Nov. 4, groups of 20 can reserve a tractor-pulled hay wagon for a 45-minute ride through prairies and tree-lined fields in the park. For an hour after the ride, participants are invited to sit around a glowing campfire to roast treats they bring with them. The cost is $125 per wagon. Advanced reservations are required by calling the Parks Department at 636-949-7535. Hayrides may be reserved for 6, 7, and 8 p.m. on Fridays and 5, 6, 7, and 8 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
If you don’t have a group large enough to book an entire wagon, then consider joining us for our popular Hayride Hoedown on Saturday, Oct. 20. During the event, participants experience a 45-minute scenic wagon ride through the park, along with a light dinner, s'mores, and the foot-stomping, knee-slapping performance of Babaloo, a one-man musical comedy act suitable for all ages. Cost of the event is $10.50 per person. Pre-registration is required by calling the parks department. Choose from a 6, 6:45, or 7:30 p.m. hay wagon departure.
