Mechanicsvllle Masons Lodge 150th Anniversary Celebration in Defiance Oct. 21

Mechanicsville Lodge #260 AF & AM will be hosting a 150th Anniversary Celebration on October 21, 2018.  The lodge was originally chartered on October 30, 1868 under the Grand Lodge of Missouri AF & AM, signed by Most Worshipful Brother John D. Vincil.

Mechanicsville Lodge was first chartered in the town of Mechanicsville, which in 1901 was renamed Howell, after Francis Howell for his roll in education in the area. Mechanicsville was located south of Highway 40 along Highway 94. In 1940, Howell, Hamburg and Toonerville were consumed by the US government and were subsequently destroyed for the purposes of building a TNT and DNT plant. In the 1950s this site, known as the Weldon Springs site, began refining uranium ore for further processing.  In December 1940, the Mechanicsville Lodge was moved to the town of Defiance just a few miles down the road.

Many well know names and families of the St. Charles county area had a direct influence on the Mechanicsville Lodge; names such as Muschany, Howell, Fulkerson, Audrain, and many more.

At the 150th Anniversary Celebration we will have a rededication ceremony done by the Grand Lodge of Missouri, including the Grand Master and several of his advancing line officers. After the rededication there will be a special flag presentation ceremony, the Grand Master’s address and presentations by Kevin McCarthy, Worshipful Master Steve Phillips and possibly additional speakers and presentations.

We are excited about this once in a life time celebration and look forward to welcoming all of our guests. There will be a barbecue (catered by Frenchtowne Catering of St. Charles) after the presentation. Our 150th Anniversary Celebration book is being published and will be available on October 21. The cost for the barbecue is $15 per person. The cost of the historical book is $10 if prepaid by October 5 (or if you mention seeing this article), otherwise the book will be $15 the day of the celebration.

During the barbecue portion, there will be a bucket available for charity donations to go to one of the members of the Defiance Merchants Association, Jennifer Hamm. She has been an instrumental force within the community and has been recently battling cancer. All proceeds from the charity bucket will be given to Jennifer, who will also be in attendance.

Please RSVP in advance for the BBQ to 636-795-2179. Everyone welcome.
