The New Melle Festival is here! On Thursday, August 13 we will have Family Night at the Festival. Starting at 6pm, the grounds will open, and rides and inflatables will start.
From 6-9pm, there will be a face painter, balloon artist, caricaturist, and demos by various first responder agencies. Straatmann Feed will also be showcasing their Agri-Land again this year. New this year will be the New Melle Festival Little Miss and Mister Pageant taking place at 7pm sponsored by the Festival Queens. Boys and girls ages 3-7 are eligible to participate in the pageant. For more information, please check out the Queen’s Facebook page, where you can also register. The grounds will close at 10pm. Admission on Thursday night will be $2, and if you bring a canned food item, your admission will be $1. On Friday night, the grounds will open at 6pm with rides and inflatables starting and the beer garden opening then. The Queen Pageant begins in the main hall at 7pm, and at 8pm local favorite Trixie Delight will take the stage. Admission on Friday will be $5, with children 12 and under free.
Saturday will be a jam packed day starting at 9am with the Gizzard Run. The New Melle Festival Parade line up will begin at 12:30pm at Daniel Boone Elementary, and the parade will start at 1:30 p.m. winding through the streets of New Melle and ending at NMSR. At 3pm, the grounds will open and there will be a Cornhole tournament in the hall. Practice and registration for the tournament will be from 3-3:45 and at 4pm bags will fly. Registration for the baby contest will also begin at 3pm, with the contest taking place at 3:30pm Brushville takes the stage at 8:30pm closing out the Festival until 11:30pm.
Registration is available for the Gizzard Run and the Festival Parade on the NMSR website. The Gizzard Run is $30 and includes an official race T-Shirt.
Competitive Float entries are $25, noncompetitive float entries are free. The theme this year is “The Roarin’ Twenties”.
T-shirt and wristband sales will be available at the NMSR office. Presale wristbands will be $15 per night, or $40 for the weekend. Preordered T-Shirts can be picked up at the NMSR office starting at 2pm on Monday, August 10.
There are also a variety of youth and adult programs to sign up for in the upcoming months. Flag Football, Jr Vikings Cheer and Fall Baseball and Softball registration is going on now. Flag football is available for grades Kindergarten through 3rd grade. There will be a Jr Viking Cheer parent meeting on Monday, August 10, with practice starting the week of August 17 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:15-7:30. Adult Kickball League will start the first Friday in August. More programs will be announced, keep checking our website for all of the latest information!
