As many of the churches in our local community have faced the tough decision of cancelling their annual dinners and fundraisers due to the impact of COVID-19, St. John’s UCC in Cappeln is no exception.
Earlier in the summer, they opted to cancel their annual picnic and now have decided to do the same for their Sausage Supper in early November. Both events were major revenue streams for the church and as we still try to keep some of the old traditions alive, safety is the biggest priority for members and visitors.
As a way to generate some of the lost revenue, the church is planning to make Fresh Country Rope Sausage, the same recipe made for the Sausage Supper, and sell it as a fundraiser. Additionally, they are also selling fresh pecans, perfect for holiday recipes, in pieces, halves and chocolate covered. The local churches are a big part of our community and it seems everyone is willing to help across denominations to lift each other up, especially when all have felt the effects of COVID in one form or another.
