KAH St. Peters, A Great Way to Make A Difference

By Steve Williams - Director

Kids Against Hunger (KAH) St. Peters is a Christ-centered organization that empowers individuals to serve those in need by having them actively participate in packing and/or distributing food. The end purpose is sharing the Truth of God's Word.

Kids Against Hunger St. Peters packages highly nutritious, life-saving meals for starving and malnourished children and their families in developing countries and the US. The meals provide a rich source of easily digestible protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins needed for malnourished children’s and adults' bodies and minds. The KAH St. Peters satellite's goal is for its meals to provide a stable nutritional base from which recipient families can move from starvation to self-sufficiency, and then use that life-saving food as a bridge to share what everyone needs more than we can imagine... a saving relationship with the God that created us. In KAH St. Peter’s early days, all of the food was distributed through strategic partnerships throughout Haiti with Global Compassion Ministries.

The founder of Kids Against Hunger, Richard Proudfit, was inspired to end world hunger after witnessing children starving in Honduras during a medical relief mission in 1982. He used his knowledge of manufacturing and distribution to develop a nutritious meal. The beauty of the food formulation is its simplicity. It is made from four readily available, dry ingredients that are easy to package, keep for long periods, and require only boiling with water to prepare. Again, despite the simplicity of the food’s content, it is a nutritionally complex and well-balanced meal.

A group from Global Compassion Ministries was confronted with the abject poverty and starvation they witnessed firsthand in Haiti. Global Compassion had been helping in Haiti for many years before God moved them to start packing food here in the States and shipping it there. KAH St. Peters was created in 2010 by Jerry Lantz. Today, KAH St. Peters is packing and delivering food to several countries, where it is being used to share the Gospel.

Grace Hauling recently sponsored a food-packing event for 30,000 meals on May 4th. They invited others to volunteer to help pack. It was a huge success. Grace Hauling and KAH St. Peters thank everyone who participated. Gary Schneider, owner of Grace Hauling, wanted to share with the community how you, your church or your organization can do the same.

The food-packing events nourish many children and families (physically and spiritually) while offering a satisfying and deeply engaging hands-on experience for the volunteers. If you would like to host a meal-packing event, visit www.kahstpeters.com.for details.

On Saturday, June 22, KAH St. Peters is hosting Make A Difference Day and are in need of volunteers. To sign up and for more details, visit www.kahstpeters.com/events.
