Free Books Through The Imagination Library

Every child in Missouri can receive a free book every month through Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library Program until their 5th birthday. The books are delivered monthly, addressed to your child or grandchild, and cover age-appropriate topics that kids can relate to.

The Imagination Library is available in all states and five countries, but Missouri is special. As of November 2023, children under 5 can now receive books through the Imagination Library of Missouri Program, which has secured funding through state law. The funding has been secured by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and a national partnership between Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Touchstone Energy Cooperative, a network of electric cooperatives across 45 states. Cuivre River Electric Cooperative is part of this network and supports this vital program. As of June, approximately 135,900 children in Missouri are receiving books through the program; unfortunately, this only accounts for 36% of eligible children.

Dolly launched the Imagination Library in 1995, and as of 2024, 3 million children have been enrolled worldwide. Dolly said, “I want to make it easy for parents to read to their children.” She wants each child to feel the magic of a book arriving and the excitement of opening it up. She believes this will start a lifetime of loving books.

Exposure to books helps children become better readers, be more prepared for school, and develop essential life skills. Families can also connect around books. A committee of early childhood experts selects books and ensures they are age-appropriate in content and format. The books also grow in complexity with the child. All the books focus on values such as kindness, appreciation, and empathy.

Children enrolled at birth will receive 60 books before starting kindergarten. For more information and to register, visit cuivre.com/dollyparton.
