Baby Gentry’s Heart Journey

Story idea submitted by Kathy Sargent and Beth Andreski, Gentry’s grandmothers.

Baby Gentry was born on August 21 with Pulmonary Atresia. His parents, Ashton and Cheri, had to move to Denver to treat Gentry at the Children's Hospital, one of the top five hospitals for this condition.

Ashton grew up in Lake Sherwood and works in the trades, and Cheri grew up in Denver. She moved to Missouri to be near her brother, became a 911 dispatcher and met Ashton. The couple lived in Washington, MO, before leaving for Denver.

Gentry was born in Denver, and family will live there until he has his open-heart surgery in January. Ashton has a job in Denver and is working, but it is barely enough to cover their living expenses. Denver is an expensive city to live in, and the medical costs are unfathomable and will continue to grow.
Baby Gentry came into the world at a healthy 8 lbs. 4 oz.; however, as healthy and perfect as he looks on the outside, his medical team and parents knew there would be a long medical journey ahead.

Pulmonary atresia is a heart problem present at birth. In this condition, the valve that helps move blood from the heart to the lungs doesn't form correctly. Instead of a valve opening and closing, a solid sheet of tissue forms. As a result, blood can't travel its usual path to get oxygen from the lungs. Pulmonary atresia is a life-threatening condition that requires surgery to repair the heart and medicines to help the heart work better. Gentry requires oxygen, a feeding tube and a specialized feeding regimen.

He is now home with his parents. Ashton and Cheri are thrilled to have him home and realize they have much to be grateful for. They are ready to move back home to Missouri. Gentry has a long journey ahead, and the family is thankful for any support.

Kathy and Beth ask that you keep Gentry and their families in your prayers. Thank you in advance for your support and prayers! To learn more about Gentry and his family, visit GoFundMe.com and search Baby Gentry’s Heart Journey or gofund.me/6485d5f1.
