The St. Charles County Ambulance District told First Alert 4 that the bus slid off the road and onto its side into a ditch in the 3800 block of Cappeln Osage Road in Marthasville around 3:30 p.m. The ambulance district said that two children suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash. One of the students was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

According to the school district, seven students from the Francis Howell School District were on the bus at the time of the crash. An ambulance official told First Alert 4 that the students on the bus were mainly from the middle school, and they were taken to a nearby home to stay warm after the crash.

In a statement, the school district said, “We are grateful for the quick response of SCCAD paramedics, New Melle Fire and Rescue, our district safety team, and for the neighbor nearby who allowed our students to wait safely in their warm home. Every person on that bus today displayed courageous behavior in a difficult situation. The entire Francis Howell community is sending well wishes and healing thoughts to those impacted, and we stand ready to provide support to our students and the bus driver in the days ahead.”

School staff notified the parents of all the students who were on board. Emergency personnel, transportation staff and a building principal were on the scene to reunite students with their families.
