Investing in Community—Every Day, for 90 Years

By Mark Laune, President & CEO, Peoples Savings Bank

April is Community Banking Month—a time to celebrate the impact and importance of community banks across the nation. As President and CEO of Peoples Savings Bank, I’m proud to lead an institution that has spent the last 90 years doing what community banks do best: investing in people, local businesses, and the communities we call home.

At PSB, our focus has never wavered. We’re not a branch of a large out-of-state corporation. We are locally owned and operated, with 12 branches serving rural and small-town communities across Missouri. The decisions we make are made right here by people who live here, work here, and care deeply about our customers.

Community Banking Month is a chance to highlight what makes community banks like ours different—and why that difference matters.

Here are just a few ways we’re celebrating:
• Free Shred Bins: Our branches offer free shredding services to help customers safely dispose of sensitive documents. It’s just one small way we’re helping protect the people we serve.
• You’ve Been PSB’d: Our employees are heading out into the community to randomly surprise people with small tokens of appreciation—whether buying someone’s coffee, lunch, or a sweet treat. It’s our way of giving back and bringing a smile to someone’s day.
• Youth Engagement: We’re holding coloring and essay contests with local schools to encourage kids to get involved and think about saving, all while connecting our branches to the next generation.
• On May 9, PSB will celebrate the new branch location for New Melle, at the corners of Hwys Z & D, with an Open House from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and a Ribbon Cutting at 11:30 a.m.

These may seem like small things—but small things add up. In fact, community banks provide over 60% of small business loans and more than 80% of agricultural loans nationwide. We serve customers that national banks often overlook, and we do it with a personal touch that only a local bank can offer.

In 2024, PSB employees volunteered over 2,500 hours of their time in our communities, and the bank donated more than $150,000 to over 170 local organizations. That’s the power of local banking—when you deposit with PSB, your dollars stay local and work to strengthen our communities.

As we celebrate 90 years of Peoples Savings Bank, I want to thank our customers and communities for putting their trust in us. We’re honored to serve you, and we look forward to continuing to grow—together—for many more years to come.
