New Melle Baking Co. announces our “Hometown Layers of Love” initiative, a new way to honor those who make a difference in our community. Our first guest is Jan McGhee, Manager of the New Melle Dollar General Store #19613.
Since 2021, Jan has been serving the New Melle community and beyond with her work at the store. Jan consistently makes updates and seeks ways to help people in this great town. Kim Sachs, Jan’s manager for just over a year, says that Jan is one of her favorite managers, as she currently oversees 20 stores in the area. Jan came to town for her job, but she stays for the small-town closeness. Even if her job changes, she would choose to stay and live here. Jan commented, “I support this great community through Dollar General with donations to local churches, and I am dedicated to making sure the doors are open through tornadoes, snow, and ice storms. Even in bad weather, I made sure to get the store open and let the community know I am here when you need anything!”

Jan is well-connected in town, and she feels like she simply belongs in this community. This is more than just a job. This is her town! She had many visitors at the bakery during her Honor Hour. In case you missed visiting her here, please know that she loved carrot cake… hint, hint. In addition to the carrot cake, the bakery treated Jan to an Iced Vanilla Latte with sweet cream foam and a twookie, a homemade Twix cookie with fresh caramel and chocolate ganache. New Melle Baking Co. will be choosing more "Hometown Layers of Love "community spotlights in the next few weeks.
