A new book hit the shelves in May, “Small Town Missouri: Legends, Lore, and Attractions in the Show Me State,” written by Caitlin Yager, a lifelong Missourian. This is her debut book.
Caitlin has written about Missouri history and cultural heritage, has been featured on podcasts and radio shows, and has spoken at state and national conferences. She lives in South St. Louis County with her husband, Zach; two children, Eli and Flora; two dogs; two cats; and four chickens. She is thrilled to spend so much time traveling across the state and is continually inspired by the passionate people and unique places that make Missouri so special. In writing this book and through her travels, Caitlin has learned that small towns have endured throughout the dynamic, complicated, ever-changing story of this nation. While large cities have developed around them, small towns have maintained successful businesses, preserved historic main streets, and continued community traditions such as festivals and fundraisers. When visiting a small town in Missouri, you’ll find that the people take care of you because they genuinely want to help you enjoy the place they are so proud to call home.
Each of the 50 towns featured in this book has a unique story to share. You’ve undoubtedly heard of or visited several, or maybe you live in one. However, there are many you likely don’t know! Some may have more attractions or a past with twists and turns, but all are worthy of a visit and have made their mark on the state’s history and culture. The best way to use this book is to plan a trip! Choose a town for a day trip, two or three for a long weekend, or more for a Missouri road trip, and set out on an adventure to discover the wonder and awe of small-town Missouri. If you would like to meet Caitlin and purchase a signed copy, visit her Book Signing on Saturday, June 14, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Main Street Books, 307 S Main St, St Charles, MO 63301.
