PREP - What does this word conjure up in your mind? Something with food, medical procedures, work-related projects, and so on. How does one “get ready” to turn in an excellent photograph for the “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest? One can obviously do nothing, or rely on chance, or a person may PREP.
P = PLAN - Without a plan, you may or may not succeed, but with a plan, you almost always have a goal in mind that produces the intended result. In terms of a photo contest, the aim is to take an excellent photo that has a strong possibility of first place. Exceptional photos have a strong composition, lighting that highlights the main subject matter, overall clarity, and/or a unique perspective.
R = RECONNOITER - Investigate the Town of Augusta, the preferred location. Take a look around to see what may be a unique picture. The September contest’s focus is “Autumn in Augusta.” Take shots that appear to be strong possibilities. Ask trustworthy persons to honestly evaluate your photos. This phase or step may take hours, or days.
E = EXECUTE - Carry out the final details of the plan. Decide on the photo to enter. Make a print. Fill out the entry form. A printable copy is available online at townofaugustamo.org, accessible by clicking on the “Photo Contest” tab. Entry form copies are available in the 24-hour Visitor Information Center brochure racks at the Wandering Owl, located at 5577 Walnut Street, across from the Town Square. The last step is to mail one carefully chosen photo and the completed entry form to: “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest, P.O. Box 42, Augusta, MO 63332.
P = PATIENCE IN THE PROCESS – If you plan, reconnoiter, and execute, there is a good chance that you may win. The “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest judges also look for the pictures that stand out from all the other entries. Persistent photographers continue to improve with practice and knowledge. Perhaps your best shot will be a winner!!!
