By Kathy Miller - On September 3, the community was shocked and devastated by the news that Mark “Porky” Joerling had passed away.
To honor the life of this New Melle icon, the community gathered on September 28 at New Melle Sports and Rec to do just that. And honor they did!
An impressive parade of over 80 trucks made its way from Daniel Boone Elementary through town, passing NMSR, and then returned to line up in the field with their beds raised. The trucks began a synchronized horn salute as the fleet of Porky Joerling trucks made their way onto the field. As the last truck passed (an older Ford Louisville that Porky favored), the beds were slowly lowered. It was a very touching moment. After the parade, the community gathered at NMSR to share a meal and memories, honoring a great man who was highly respected and always ready to help when asked. Porky's loss will be deeply felt throughout the community, and the positive impact he made will always be remembered. To read his obituary, click here.
