New Melle Troop 856 Collects Record Items During Scouting For Food

In November, Troop 856 from New Melle participated in Scouting For Food. The Scouts first dropped off empty bags for filling with canned goods, then collected donations the following weekend. Donations were accepted before Masses during the collection weekend.

The Troop gathered a total of 8,628 items, marking an increase from previous years. Of these, 3000 items were dropped off at IHM Church or the Pantry, while the remainder were collected directly from homes by the Scouts.

The donated items were transported to the St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 8 W Hwy D, New Melle, where they were counted, sorted, and all UPCs were marked through. The teamwork between the Scouts and pantry volunteers enabled quick processing.
Troop 856 would like to thank everyone who donated items this year, making this year’s Scouting For Food a success for the community.
