Dear New Melle Community,
There are communities you pass through, and then there are communities that become part of who you are.
As I prepare to begin a new chapter and leave my position at Daniel Boone Elementary, I have found myself reflecting on what New Melle has come to mean to me. What began as a professional opportunity quickly became something much more personal. Because of Daniel Boone Elementary, I was fortunate enough to become part of this extraordinary community, and for that I will always be grateful.
New Melle is a special place. In a world that often feels rushed and disconnected, this community continues to demonstrate the value of knowing your neighbors, supporting one another, and showing up when it matters most. It is a place where families choose to put down roots because people genuinely care about each other. It is a place where community is not just a word—it is a way of life.
Over the years, I have had the privilege of experiencing that spirit firsthand. Whether through New Melle Sports and Recreation, the Chamber of Commerce, community events, local businesses, church gatherings, the Farmers Market, school events, or simply conversations with neighbors and friends, I have witnessed countless examples of people stepping up to help one another, celebrating together, and carrying each other through difficult times.
The places that make New Melle unique—the local gathering spots, small businesses, community traditions, and events that bring people together—are important. But what makes New Melle truly special are the people.
You welcomed me. You supported me. You encouraged me. You shared your stories, your families, your traditions, and your friendships with me.
Many of you began as parents, community partners, volunteers, or colleagues. Over time, many became friends. Some became like family. The kindness, generosity, and genuine care I have experienced here have left a lasting mark on my heart.
Professionally, Daniel Boone Elementary has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my career. It has challenged me, shaped me, inspired me, and reminded me daily why I chose to dedicate my life to education. The students, families, staff, and community members who make Daniel Boone what it is have taught me lessons I will carry with me wherever I go. And because of Daniel Boone Elementary, New Melle became much more than my workplace. It became a place I love.
While my next opportunity is taking me a few hours away, I want you to know that this is not goodbye. New Melle will always hold a special place in my heart. The friendships, relationships, and memories built here are too meaningful to leave behind.
I fully expect to find myself back in town—visiting school events, stopping by community gatherings, supporting local businesses, catching up with friends, and spending time with the people who have become such an important part of my life.
Thank you for welcoming me into your community. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your story. Thank you for your support, your friendship, and your belief in the work we do for children.
Most of all, thank you for showing me what a true community looks like. New Melle will always feel a little like home.
