Dear Editor,
I am currently working on my Communications merit badge, and one of the requirements is to write a letter to an editor regarding a topic of my choice. I have chosen to write about Scouting and what it has taught me and many others since I have been a part of it.
Scouting has taught me how to live by the Scout Law, the Scout Oath, and the Outdoor Code. The Scout Law includes 12 points such as being trustworthy, helpful, courteous, brave, and reverent and teaches the importance of showing these points, both in and out of uniform. The Scout Oath teaches us different ways to show the scout laws, as well as teaching us to remain physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight at all times.
Lastly, the Outdoor Code teaches us to respect the outdoors as if it is our own home by being clean in our outdoor manners, careful with fire, and conservation-minded.
While Scouting teaches many different skills, I believe these points are most important for everyone to remember, whether they are a scout, have been a scout or even if they haven't.
