Don and Corinne Mallinckrodt, and their children, Heather and Daniel, of Augusta, were selected as the St. Charles County State Fair Farm Family for 2015. This year celebrated the 57th
Annual Missouri State Fair Farm Family Day which was on August 17, 2015
at the Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia, MO. The purpose of Farm Family Day is to “recognize the outstanding contribution that Missouri farm families make to Missouri and Missouri’s agriculture.”
The Mallinckrodt’s were nominated by board members of their local Missouri Farm Bureau and the St. Charles County MU Extension center. They were invited to enjoy a day at the Missouri State Fair and be recognized at the Farm Family Day dinner that evening. This event is co-sponsored by Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Dept. of Agriculture, Missouri State Fair, University of Missouri Extension, and the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food, and Natural Resources.
Don and Corinne were both raised in a farm family. Don is the son of Grace and the late Oscar Mallinckrodt. He attended Francis Howell High School and continues to farm on the family farm in Augusta, where he crops approximately 1000 acres and has a cow/calf operation of around 80 head.
Corinne is the daughter of Orville and Irene Brinker, Sr. She grew up on the Brinker farm which raised cattle, hogs, and crops. Corinne worked in the garden as well as helped in her brother’s chicken houses. Corinne attended Washington High School and is currently employed at Altemueller Jewelry Store in Washington as the Shipping and Receiving Manager.
Don and Corinne are teaching their children the same farm values they learned as kids. The children have learned how to raise chickens, hogs, and cattle. They help with hay, crops, and the garden, driving the tractors, and helping out whenever it is needed around the farm.
The Mallinckrodt’s are involved in the Daniel Boone 4-H
Club. Heather, 20, and Daniel, 13, have participated in livestock judging, archery, and the swine project. They have raised and showed hogs at the Washington Town and Country Fair for the past several years. Last year, Heather graduated from the 4-H
program, so Daniel was the only one showing a hog this year. He was a class winner in the market hog show, exhibited the Grand Champion Crossbred Gilt in the Swine Breeding Show, and was selected as the junior division showmanship winner. Daniel also showed a bucket calf for the first time this year. Both children exhibit produce and other craft projects at the Washington Fair as well.
The Mallinckrodt family would like to offer a special “Thank you!” to the Missouri Farm Bureau and the MU Extension Center for voting them the 2015 Farm Family of St. Charles County.
