On March 23, 2021, Sam Schmidt, son of Jody and Laura Schmidt of New Melle, set a St. Francis Borgia High School record previously held by David Ruether (Class of 1998) for the 100M.
Schmidt clocked in at 11.03 at the first track meet of the season in Pacific, MO on Tuesday, then broke his own record three days later on March 26 with a time of 11.01 at the AAA Conference Relays at Cardinal Ritter High School, St. Louis.
Schmidt, a Senior, has played football and competed in track throughout his high school career. He was a State Qualifier for Track in 2019 as a Sophmore. Last year, when all sports were suspended due to COVID, Schmidt
kept training and working out regularly. He also worked with a personal trainer at The Competitive Edge in Union. His hard work has obviously paid off with record-breaking performances his first two meets of the season.
Congratulations Sam – and best of luck as the rest of the season unfolds!
