St. Charles County police responded to the area of Highway D and Hamburg Hiking Trail shortly before 3:00 p.m. to investigate a reported shooting. An investigation reveals that a 36-year-old male victim was exercising on a trail when he crossed paths with an unknown male subject.
Immediately after passing one another, the suspect fired multiple rounds from a handgun. The victim sustained one gunshot wound to his back by the attacker who fled the area on foot. A good Samaritan transported the victim from nearby the trail to Francis Howell High School for emergency assistance. The victim was then transported to a hospital for further evaluation. His condition is unknown, but his injuries are expected to be non-life threatening.
The suspect is described as a white male between 30 and 40 years of age. He was last seen wearing a black coat and tan pants.
