At the New Melle Country Christmas event on Nov. 25th, over 80 individual teddy bears and a large box of small Teddy Bears were donated, along with $450 cash, for “Teddy Bears for Trevor.”
The bears and money were donated by members of the community, in memory of Trevor Joerling, who lost his battle with lymphoma in 2014 at the age of 16. Trevor’s family (parents Todd and Brandee Joerling and sister Darby) have made it a annual tradition to deliver bears to hospitalized children on Christmas morning. This year, they were accompanied by members of the Wildschuetz family (Lauren, Lisa, Brady and Lacey.)
Brandee said it is a heartwarming experience to surprise patients (and their families) who are spending Christmas in the hospital. The $450 cash was donated to St. Louis Chidren’s Hospital Child Life Services to be used as needed for special patient needs or circumstances. “We feel very blessed to live in such a generous community.” Brandee said. “We appreciate the New Melle Chamber of Commerce for supporting this cause, and we thank all who donated bears and/or money toward the effort. Thank you!”
