The U.S. Postal Service is raising postal rates effective Sunday, January 21, 2018. The cost of a first class stamp will raise from $.49 to $.50. Two ounce letters will raise from $.70 to $.71; three ounce letters will raise from $.91 to $.92. Additional ounces will remain the same at $.21 each.
The postcard rate will increase to $.35 from $.34, and Priority Mail rates will also increase.
Priority Mail, Priority Mail Express, and First Class Package Service will all see an overall rate increase of 3.9%. (Example: A Priority Mail envelope that is now $6.65 will cost $6.70.)
Parcel Select Ground will see an average rate increase of 4.9% in 2018.
Commercial Base (online postage) rates will start at $6.55 (previously $5.95).
Media Mail will see an average rate increase of 3.9% in 2018. Rates will start at $2.66 (previously $2.63).
Forever Stamps, purchased for $.49 each before January 21, can continue to be used after the rate increase.
