The Annual New Melle Chamber of Commerce Community Easter Egg Hunt was held Saturday, March 31. It was one of the coldest, most blustery days in the 23 year history of the event. Despite the cold and windy damp weather, an amazing 230 children participated — as well as about 75 adults in the Cystic Fibrosis Adult Hunt.
The Chamber of Commerce would like to thank everyone who helped with or supported the event, including New Melle Sports and Recreation for providing the location, the New Melle Fire Department for providing drinks, the City of New Melle for providing cookies and doughnuts, Blondin Professional Real Estate for sponsoring face painting, Pocket of Preschool Academy for setting up a photo backdrop, Hope Fick for bringing rabbits and a goat to pet, Boy Scout Troop 856 for stuffing 3000+ eggs, Kyle Shell for serving as the Master of Ceremonies, Meghan Swobada who dressed up as the Easter Bunny, the New Melle Queen Candidates, plus, and Ages and Stages Learning Center for the bags.
This was the 23rd year that the New Melle Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the hunt. Over $1400 in prizes were purchased with money collected from area businesses and residents. Six bicycles were awarded, donated by: Peoples Savings Bank (2 bikes); New Melle Chamber of Commerce (1 bike); Wolf Real Estate and Hwy. D Storage (1 bike); and Catala Facial Retreat and Spa (2 tricycles). Plus there were numerous attendance prizes for adults/families. Each child also received a bag containing coupons and free gifts from businesses that contributed to the event.
The Cystic Fibrosis Adult Hunt was sponsored by Equity Prime Mortgage–Ryan and Julie Sanford, and Overstock Outlet–Rich and Lori West – who also sponsored an egg decorating activity for the kids. A number of other businesses and organizations also donated attendance prices specifically for the adult hunt. Over $890 was raised by the Live, Laugh, Libby Team, all of which will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation which helps support patients and families living with the disease.
The Chamber of Commerce appreciates everyone who supported the event in any way, and especially the committee members. It was a huge success!
Chairperson, Maureen Blondin, thanked all the volunteers who stepped up to the plate and helped out. “Everyone pulls together every year to pull this off. It’s a great community event! Thank you!”
