The 2017 retiring queen was Chyna Piel, daughter of John Piel, and Joe & Kelly Brazil. In the past year, Chyna has kept busy with completing her senior year of high school and preparing for college. Chyna will be attending the University of Missouri in Columbia this fall where she plans to study Textile and Apparel Management. She is thankful for the opportunity of becoming closer with her community throughout her reign as the 2017 New Melle Festival Queen.
This was the 65th consecutive year for the New Melle Festival Queen Pageant. It is a long-standing tradition that provides a scholarship to a deserving young lady from the community. Each year, judges select a candidate based on a compilation of points acquired from Community Service, Community Involvement, Ticket Sales, Poise & Personality, Responsibility, and Interview Questions.
This year’s judges were Jillian Krueger of Wentzville and Audrey Lee of Winfield, and Jessica Scheve of Foristell. Both candidates got the full pageant experience with events ranging from craft night to a day at the spa. As our annual community service project, the candidates chose to host the "Kickin' it for Cancer" kickball tournament, making it the fourth consecutive year for the event. Both candidates worked very hard to make this the most successful tournament to date! $6000 will be donated in loving memory of Trevor Joerling to the Friends of Kids with Cancer organization! The queen candidates extend a sincere thank you to everyone who supported the tournament in any way.
