Cub Scout Pack 856 and Boy Scout Troop 856, chartered through Immaculate Heart of Mary – New Melle, needs your help, and so do thousands of hungry people in our community.
Our Scouts are participating in the annual Scouting for Food drive this fall. The 2018 food drive will take place on two consecutive Saturdays. On Saturday, November 10, Scouts will place plastic bags at doorsteps throughout St. Louis City, St. Louis County, the surrounding counties, southeast Missouri, and southern Illinois. The following Saturday, November 17th, Scouts will return to pick up the filled bags. Food donated in the New Melle area will be taken to the St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry at Immaculate Heart of Mary. Food collected in other areas will be distributed through other local relief pantries.
This year the Scouts hope to match or better the success of last year’s food drive, which resulted in 1.9 million cans of food collected. This year the food pantries are looking for protein food such as canned tuna, peanut butter, or canned ravioli.
Your help is desperately needed. Please be sure to look for the Scouting for Food bag on November 10 and fill it will any canned food items you can donate. Scouts will collect the donation from your doorstep or by your mailbox on November 17th. If you wish to support the local food pantry or the scouts miss your donation, you can bring up any food donation to the collection area, located in the back of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, open during business hours and times of Masses.
