The New Melle Fire Protection District will be testing fire hydrants throughout the District during the months of April, May and June.
Water customers may notice their water may be discolored for a short period of time during these tests. The discoloration is not a health hazard and the water should be clear within a few hours after firefighters have completed testing in the area. Residents should avoid washing clothes during and immediately after hydrant testing.
Firefighters must turn on the hydrants and allow water to flow to make sure they are operating properly, which is required by insurance companies to maintain homeowners insurance ratings. Firefighters will also note any obstructions around the hydrants that could hinder firefighters during emergency operations.
