Delicious BBQ and a Skateboarding Dog were among Highlights at the Defiance Wine Country Fest

The 2019 Defiance Wine Country Fest got underway Friday, May 17th with a "Hang with the Locals" event at The Defiance Roadhouse. A great time was had as members of the Defiance Merchants Association and local residents welcomed guests to join them in enjoying food, drinks, and music by "Ear Candy".

On Saturday, a "Bark and Wine" event took place at Defiance Ridge Vineyards. Dogs and dog lovers enjoyed demonstrations by various vendors, the St. Charles County Canine Unit, and the Tri-County Agility Club. Each participating dog also received a goody bag. Proceeds benefited The Focus Marines Foundation. A huge thank you is extended to all who participated!

Then on Sunday, May 19th, the second annual "Q at the Creek" took place at Defiance Ridge Vineyards. This event was officially sanctioned by the St. Louis BBQ Society and located at the beautiful Sugar Creek Winery. $1400 dollars in prizes were up for grabs in a field of 12 backyard BBQ competitive teams. Payouts were split between two categories, Chicken and Ribs, and paid down the first 5 places in each.

We had a beautiful day and great turn out once the brief shower in the morning passed.  Jeff Comotto of the Defiance Merchants Association donated 60lbs of Ribs that were smoked by the onsite vendor Heavy Smoke. The Ribs were delicious and were available for the enjoyment of any who attended.  At the end of the day, the "Squirrel Que" team earned the honor of Grand Champion and "Papa Jim’s" earned second honor, Reserve Grand Champion.

It was a wonderful time. Thanks to everyone who participated and to those who came out and enjoyed the day. A special thanks to our Sponsors who helped afford the generous prize pool for a great event: Classique Wine & Spirits, Distillery of Defiance, Klemme Backhoe Service, Mechanicsville Lodge 260, X-Pests, Trish’s Dishes, Tom Shaw Realtors, Kellie Brazil, Victoria Home’s Realty, Sunflower Hill Farm, and Good News Brewery.
