German Zither Club Coming to Augusta, Washington, St. Charles

St. Charles’ German Sister City Chapter is happy to announce that the Zither Club of Ludwigsburg, Germany (our sister city), will visit this area as part of their 100th Anniversary U.S. Tour celebration. We welcome 19 members of the Zither club who will perform three concerts locally:

•    26 August at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Washington, MO, free dinner at 5pm, concert at 7pm;
•    27 August at the Harmonie Verein, Augusta, Food trucks arrive 5:30, concert at 6pm; and
•    29 August at the Foundry Art Centre, St. Charles, 6:30pm.

The zither is well known for its being played in the movie, “The Third Man Theme”. The zither is a stringed musical instrument whose strings are the same length as its sound board. The group brings film music into life and takes you back into the Hippie ‘60’s with Flower Power, and inspiring other themes like “Zither Club meets Hollywood” or “Summer, Sun and Sausages”. When the Zither club performs, their Zithers are rocking! It is this mixture of the best musical entertainment and the art of performance which makes the club so successful.

Founded 100 years ago, the beginning shortly after First World War was not so easy. Today the Zither club has 35 active players, with a total club membership of 100.  This tour to America brings sixteen zithers, one guitar, a dulcimer and the conductor. The Ludwigsburgers will be hosted by St. Charles families.

The concerts are free, open to all. A freewill donation will be greatly appreciated.
