Nestled just outside of town you’ll find New Melle Baptist Church (4900 W. Hwy. D.) On the rain drizzled night of February 25 they hosted their third annual Circle of Love banquet honoring many of the heartbeats that make this community tick, the people behind the businesses and churches and their customers.
Church representative Mary Lou Rogers presided over the celebration reminding us all of the small things that make great impact: a restaurant offering the service of a hot meal at the end of a busy day, advice on home improvement or repair, helping hands to provide beauty services, and places of worship to help make sense of it all.
Over 70 community members filled the themed tables and all were treated to a catered dinner and dessert, live music sing-along, and gift giveaways provided from the honoree area businesses and churches. Most importantly, new and renewed connections were made that keep us a loving and vibrant community.
Among those in attendance and/or participating in the gift exchange were: The Bavarian Smoke Haus, Bodywise Pilates Studio, Contractors Flooring Supply, Catala Facial Retreat & Boutique, The Red Beauty Salon, Deja Du Hair & Nail Salon, Friedens Peace UCC (Paster Karen Eck), Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church (Fr. Tom Miller), On the Go Hauling, Grace Hauling, New Melle Dental, New Melle Sports and Recreation, Piazza Deli & Pizzeria, Porky Joerling Trucking, The Quarry Wine Garden, Tidd Realty, SEMO Pest Control and Straatmann Feed Store. Members of the New Melle Fire Dept. could not come as they were called out on a call, but when the event was over, New Melle Baptist Church dropped off dinner and desserts to the firemen along with a thank you for their great service to our community.
According to SCORE, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a resource partner of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), for every dollar you spend at a small business, 67 cents stays in the local community, and a majority of that (44 cents) goes to the small business owner and the wages and benefits of their employees. The benefits don’t stop there, either. Small businesses reinvest 23 cents of every dollar into other local businesses. Source: https://www.score.org/blog/are-small-businesses-still-popular-americans
Roger’s said, “New Melle Baptist church would like to thank all who came to help us recognize and honor all the local businesses who serve us daily in so many different ways. Please join us on Sundays for 9 a.m. Bible Study and 10:15 a.m. workshop; and /or Wednesday night Prayer and Worship from 6-7 p.m.”
