Despite the challenges 2020 has brought, the New Melle Festival brought people young and old together for games, rides, food, music, and fun. The Festival looked a little different this year, but a good time was had by all each day.
The Little Miss and Mister pageant was a great addition to family night- bringing in 13 boys and girls. Trixie Delight rocked the stage on Friday night, and Brushville closed out the Festival on Saturday night. The 2nd Annual Gizzard Run brought out the runners on Saturday morning and the New Melle Festival Parade had people lining the streets of New Melle to check out the floats, cars, and dump trucks. Catala stole the show winning the parade float contest, with the New Melle Festival Queens taking 2nd and WorkHorse Construction coming in 3rd. Boone Country 4-H took the prize for best noncompetitive float. All in all, people came out to the Festival and had a good time, feeling some normalcy and community for the first time in a while. We could not have put on the New Melle Festival this year without the help of our volunteers and sponsors. We send a huge thank you to everyone who helped and supported the event!
New Melle Sports and Rec is still in full swing this fall. Jr Vikings Football will be competing most weekends in September and October, with the Jr Vikings Cheerleaders cheering them on. Fall Feeder Softball League will take place on Sundays at NMSR. There will also be Rec League softball and baseball taking place during the week.
