A Boone Country Connection reader in the New Melle area reported finding a pile of mail in a local subdivision on Sunday, December 27th. All the mail had been opened and belonged to at least 3 or 4 homes in the Wentzville and Foristell areas.
The pile included a letter from the IRS (which contained someone's Social Security number.) All the found mail was turned in at local post office on December 28th and will hopefully find its way back to the proper recipients. This serves as a good reminder to all of us to pick up our mail promptly everyday, and stop mail service if we are not going to be home to pick it up (i.e. vacations, business trips, hospitalizations.) There are also lockable mailboxes available that allow carriers to drop mail in, but require a key in order to retrieve what has been delivered. Those types of boxes are available online and at retail outlets such as home improvement stores.
