It is with great mixed emotions that my wife, Marj, and I have decided to close Kate’s Coffee House in Augusta. We have enjoyed serving our loyal customers, and are proud to have earned a reputation as one of the top coffee houses in Missouri, especially at this time when a national spotlight has been placed on Augusta.
While it was a tough decision, it was the right decision to close and make way for Philip Day to fulfill his lifetime professional goal to have a farm to table restaurant, Root Food + Wine. I’m very excited for Philip. He has all the qualities necessary to be very successful and will be a real asset for the Town of Augusta.
Our discussions with Philip started last August – before the wonderful announcement from The Hoffmann Family of Companies. And even though the Hoffmanns have mentioned bringing a 5-star restaurant to the community, I can assure you that the restaurant experience that Philip is planning will indeed rival that same 5-star level.
Our last day in business as Kate’s Coffee House will be March 12. Philip’s first day open as Root Food + Wine is planned for April 1. We wish him and his staff all the success in the world, and I am confident that this wonderful community will welcome and support him.
I will continue to operate the Conference Center at Oaks Crossing for special events and dinners (including the Romance in Wine Country Date Nights); as well as American Kitchen & Backyard Design (since 1999.) Above all else, Marj and I want to thank everyone who has made Kate’s Coffee House a part of their life.
From the bottom of our hearts – Thank you!
