Weekly New Melle Country Market to Start Saturday, May 29

A new outdoor community market will be starting in New Melle on Saturday, May 29, 2021 in the gravel parking lot at Hwys. D and Z (behind the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel and Liz’s Bar and Grill.)

Organizers Leslie Limberg and Wyatt Gober feel like they have a winning idea with all the right ingredients coming together to make this market a success: convenient location, community awareness and social media support, plus local residents and entrepreneurs selling farm-raised meat, poultry, cheese, eggs, fruit and vegetables, fresh flowers, plants, fresh baked goods, arts and crafts and more.

Limberg said, “This market has just the right combination of committed entrepreneurs to start and manage the non-profit registered operation. The mission is solely designed to support and serve ‘Boone country’ residents. Stop by each Saturday to meet and greet neighbors and get in on the variety of amusements, food handouts and shopping. The market is booking local musicians, volunteers, children's educators and later in the season, food trucks. More vendors and customers wanted!”

Wyatt Gober is a third-generation New Melle native soon to graduate from St Charles Community College School of Agriculture. Limberg said, “And committed he is! It's in his DNA. He has been a ground man for Sun Ray Tree Service, a 15-year Boone Country business; and has grown food from Oregon to New Melle, while promoting sustainable communities.”

Limberg holds a B.S. in Nutrition & Dietetics and is a St Charles County Master Gardener. She grew up hunting in the Defiance area with her dad. As a professional, she has advised in clinics, taught cooking, and catered events. In Summer she teaches kids seed planting at the Meadows Farmers Market and manages gardens at the University Extension in St. Peters.

Gober and Limberg both have previous experience in most aspects of business, food, nature and the arts. (Gober is a musician and Limberg, an oil painter)

Limberg said, “This will be no ordinary market. It will be a unique community experience. Come, take a walk around, bring the kids (and your wallet) and even a lawn chair to enjoy acoustic music, fresh food, and help support the participating farmers, gardeners, entrepreneurs, artisans and more. Special thanks to Fr. Tom Miller and Immaculate Heart of Mary Church for helping to make this opportunity possible. We look forward to seeing everyone there.”

Market hours will be 8 a.m. to 12 noon, every Saturday, May 29 through October 30, 2021. For more information or to sign up as a vendor, visit www.newmellecountrymarket.com, follow New Melle Country Market on Facebook, or call 636-398-8809.
