On Sunday, June 13th, the New Melle VFW & Auxiliary hosted a benefit for U.S. Army Vietnam War Veteran and Life Member Don “Jerz” Joerling. We had an amazing turnout of friends and family to help support Jerz during his battle with bone cancer. There was a BBQ as well as a Meat Shoot with raffles all day long. Forty-three shooters attended with an estimate of at least 200 people in attendance throughout the day. There were 40 silent auction items including some amazing WWII artifacts, plus 7 large raffle items donated by local families, friends and businesses.
Many wonderful people helped make the event possible. A few special shout outs go to: Brad Schwerdt, Zach Lamping, Jed Lamping and Cole Muschany, and Mark Haskins for helping with the trap shoot; Jerry Bruns, “Aqua Jim”, Michell Jungermann, Rhonda DeGeal and Maelynn Welge for helping with all the cooking and raffles; Tom & JoAnn Watts for all the pot shot cards; Diane Loyd and Tina Kay for running the bar. Thank you to all who helped in any way.
Thank You from Don and Mary Joerling
We are so thankful for our family, friends and community for the outpouring of support for us at this trying time. Although there are so many people to thank, we have to give a special shout out to VFW Post 5651 for hosting the benefit; Brad Schwerdt and Mark Haskins and others who helped us from the very beginning. Also a special-special shout out to our angel nieces, Maelynn Welge and Michell Jungermann for working so hard to put this benefit together along with: Gene and Flo Joerling, Jerry Bruns, Jim DeJarnett, Willie Mueller, Tom and Joann Watts, Rhonda DeGeal, and Erica Watson. A very special thanks as well to Dan's Country Meats in New Melle for donating the meat and Ron Schneider and Aaron Lane for playing music. Thanks also to all who donated and supported the silent auction and the raffles – your generosity is truly amazing! To everyone who supported this event in any way, we are sincerely grateful.
