The New Melle Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon-cutting on Friday, October 1, 2021, for the New Melle Baking Company at 30 West Highway D, Suite 105.
The bakery opened on June 10, and the owners Debbie Urzi and her husband, Tony, have lived in the New Melle area since 1998.
Baking has always been a part of Debbie’s life; she baked with her mother as a child, which began her passion. Debbie still uses some of the family recipes from the 1800s and has developed new recipes of her own. For over 30 years, Debbie was the sole baker and lead hospitality coordinator for her church’s coffee shop. So, with all of Debbie’s passion and experience in baking and encouragement from her family and friends, they decided to start the New Melle Baking Company.
The New Melle Baking Company offers cookies, cakes, donuts, bread, cupcakes, muffins, specialty orders for any occasion and much more. The bakery also features specialty coffees, lattes, espressos and ice cream (seasonal.)
Debbie thanked everyone for coming and for the support from their family and friends, and the community. “I am so thankful to be a business owner in New Melle and honored to serve this wonderful community. This business would not be what it is today without my dedicated and loyal staff, our customers and my family.”
The New Melle Baking Company is open Wednesdays - Saturdays 6 a.m. - 7 p.m., Sundays 7 a.m. - 6 p.m., closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. For more information, visit newmellebakingcompany.com and follow them on Facebook.
