There was an excellent turnout for the Defiance Christmas Festival and Parade on December 4, 2021. The weather was beautiful; fabulous music by Scott & Karl Duo at the "S" curve; the Dashing Through Defiance 5k; a Christmas Market; Photos with Santa, and other activities throughout the town of Defiance.
The day started at Defiance Roadhouse with a breakfast buffet, followed by the Dashing Through Defiance 5k walk/run. The winners were Jaden Elgin - Male 25 and under; Jordyn Ehlmann - Female 25 and under; Liz Vegovisch - Female over 25 and Mike Aitken - Male over 25.
The parade began at noon, and the Grand Marshall was Defiance native John Lacey. There were over 70 entries in the parade this year.
The following prizes were awarded in the parade:
Best Float - Lauderdale Realty, Best Dog - Kai, (Kim Loos, Owner), Best Dog/Owner Ensemble - Daisy and Karen Grabes and friends, Best Pet - Charlotte, Bella, Penelope and Tilly (Ryan Ruban & Christmas Trees), Best Pet/Owner Ensemble - Gertie the Goat and Glenda Drier, Best Social Media Pet - Danny (Don Fawcett), Best Decorated ATV - Kathy & Anthony Westcott, Best Pre 1960 Car - 1957 Jeep Willy FC-170- Craig Brockhaus, Best 1960+ Car, 1963 Chevy C-10 Pickup - Kevin Shettler.
The Defiance Merchants Association would like to thank everyone who participated in any way and thanks to the great crowd that came out to enjoy the festivities and kick off the holiday season!
