On Thursday, April 28, the Augusta Plein Air Art Festival held a “Paint Out” in New Melle. Some area residents invited the artists to paint on their property, or the artists could choose a location in and around town.
The painting began at noon, with 52 artists participating. The judging and sale that evening were held at The Quarry Wine Garden, and a total of 22 paintings were sold.
The winner of the $500 Sponsor’s Choice award by People Savings Bank was “What Remains” by Gino Santa Maria of St. Louis. The Judge’s Choice winner was “Lake at the Quarry” by Linda Wilmes of Josephville.
Linda Wilmes painted at The Quarry Wine Garden, and Gino Santo Maria painted a barn on what was formerly Busdieker property off Holt Road, now owned by Tim Griffey. Congratulations to Linda and Gino and to all the artists that participated in the New Melle Paint Out. A huge thanks to the Augusta Pein Air Art Festival, The Quarry Wine Garden, the New Melle Chamber of Commerce, Peoples Savings Bank, the community, volunteers and all of the artists for the support and hard work that goes into this event.
