Jacob Garvey of Defiance, Awarded a $10,000 Ray Aviation Flight Scholarship

In June, 16-year-old Jacob Garvey, a homeschooled sophomore from Defiance, MO, was awarded a Ray Aviation Flight Scholarship, which will help him earn his private pilot license. Each year, the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), aided by the Ray Foundation, awards 120 scholars up to $10,000 for flight training expenses. Jacob was nominated by his local EAA Chapter 1402 in Sullivan, Missouri. Jacob is active in EAA’s Flying Start and Young Eagles programs, which promote general aviation to youth and adults alike. Garvey’s passion rose from watching crop dusters fly over the fields near his first home in Wisconsin. Ever since, he has eagerly been awaiting the day he could start flying. He is taking lessons from a private certified flight instructor at the Sullivan Regional Airport and will finish his license by next June. Garvey, who plans to make a career of flying, is extremely appreciative of the opportunity to earn his license with the EAA Ray Scholarship. Congratulations Jacob!
