St. Charles Junior Service League Celebrates 90 Years of Service

St. Charles Junior Service League is a charitable organization that purchases shoes for needy children in St. Charles County. It began in 1932 when a few ladies decided to form a club while also contributing to the community. The organization's first project was to raise money for a children's wading pool at Blanchette Park. The pool still stands today and is a circular flower garden at the entrance to Memorial Hall.
The Club initially met upstairs at Huning Department Store on Main Street. They eventually moved to the Kathryn Linnemann Library at its original location on Jefferson Street. Today they meet at the First United Methodist Church, 801 First Capital Drive, St. Charles, MO 63301.
This small, hardworking group of 15 ladies supports the community and has a good time doing so. Today, they raise money for the organization through two main fundraisers. A golf tournament is held every June, and a Card Party in the fall.

Children in need of shoes are referred to the organization by schools and local child welfare agencies. Junior Service League is open to any woman aged 18 or above passionate about doing things for others. For questions or interest in joining this unique club, call Jeanette Garrison at 636-947-9677.
