Kids’ “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest in September

By Gay Eskew

Enjoy the last days of summer. Everything from scorching heat to ear-splitting thunderstorms, with pleasant days and temperatures, tossed in-between. It’s good to appreciate the variety of summer “daze” by capturing it in a picture “worth a thousand words.”
Another year of school begins at the end of August. Are you ready? Are you prepared for the Kids’ “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest? Have you been practicing and tweaking the photography skills that you have learned during the last few months?
What’s new? What catches your eye? Augusta Awareness is the preferred category for the Kids’ “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest, ending September 30.

Take creative photos of one of the new businesses in Augusta; of a new paint job or a newly noticed barn quilt; of beautiful autumn colors; of freshly picked produce such as pumpkins; of new memories on the Katy Trail; of the new statues around Town; of new floats in the Harvest Festival parade; and anything else that reflects something new in Augusta. Whether in nature or man-made, all photos will be accepted.

Judging will take place shortly after the September 30 deadline. The local judges will decide the winners based on creativity, originality, clarity, and uniqueness. Mail your 4 x 6 print photo and the completed application form found at www.townofaugustamo.org to “Best of Augusta” Photo Contest, PO Box 42, Augusta, MO 63332.

Prizes for the 12 & under winners from the Augusta Town Board are first place $30.00; second place $25.00; and third place $20.00. Tell your children, grandchildren, neighbors, and others about the upcoming KIDS’ “BEST OF AUGUSTA” PHOTO CONTEST. Perhaps you can assist a child 12 & under to enter the contest; who knows, it could be the winner.
