Cuivre River Electric Cooperative appoints Karen Berra as the St. Charles County District #4 Board Director

September 20, 2022 – Guided by cooperative bylaws, the Cuivre River Electric Cooperative (CREC) board of directors appointed Karen Berra as the new board director for its St. Charles County District #4 seat. The position was vacated earlier in the year, following the resignation of Board Director Denise O’Mara, who moved out of CREC’s system.

Per the cooperative’s bylaws, the board of directors is allowed to appoint a qualified member to serve out the remaining portion of the unexpired term of a board director who has vacated the seat. Berra, who has been a CREC member since 2007, will serve until the term expires in August 2023, at which time she will have the option to run for another term representing her district in the cooperative’s annual election.

CREC had put out a call in June for eligible candidates interested in serving as the St. Charles County District #4 board director. A board committee reviewed the candidates who applied for the vacancy and selected Berra, who was then approved by the board of directors. She will begin serving at the cooperative’s September 2022 board meeting.

Berra works in the fuel industry and currently serves as a fuel administrator/wholesale billing coordinator for CF Altitude. She volunteers regularly for an annual golf tournament, raising monies for organizations such as the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation, Folds of Honor, Backstoppers, and Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation. When asked about what interests her the most about serving on the CREC board, Berra said that she is “very interested in learning more about how the co-op operates and continues to provide excellent service to its members all while keeping one of the highest satisfaction ratings in the industry.”
