Veterens Day Program at Daniel Boone Elementary 2022

By Kathy Miller

On Friday, November 11, Daniel Boone Elementary held its Annual Veterans Day Program. Over 110 veterans enjoyed a light breakfast with the student(s) they are related to from Daniel Boone Elementary. Those students then escorted the veterans to the gym. Kevin Armour, Principal of Daniel Boone Elementary, began the program with the words, “Veterans Day is a celebration to honor America's Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Today, we are privileged to thank all the veterans here with us.”

Nathan Laupp, Marine Corps Veteran, was the guest speaker for the program. He spoke about veterans, their love of Country, and the sense of pride that comes from serving. Nathan said, “Veterans also cherish the time they spent in the military; even though it was not always pleasant, the friends that become family, brothers and sisters, is something you will always carry with you.” Nathan spoke about the importance of giving back to fellow veterans, especially those returning to civilian life after the military and those who struggle to find their place.

The Daniel Boone Choir sang the “Star Spangled Banner,” “My America,” and “United We Stand” and led the entire group along with students and staff in the closing song “American Heart.”

A video directed by Mr. Tom Sherman featured clips of Daniel Boone students answering the question, “What is a Veteran?” and thanking the Veterans for their service.

The Daniel Boone Student Council held a fundraiser earlier this year and raised $350 for the Honor Flight Program. The Daniel Boone Student Council presented the check to the guest speaker, Nathan Laupp.

Principal Armour led a moment of silence for those who have served and lost their lives and for those missing in action. He thanked all the veterans in attendance and everyone for their hard work in making the Veterans Day Program such a success.
