By Kathy Miller - The Catala House in New Melle is a charming, one-of-a-kind boutique located at 4591 Hwy Z. Carla Brakensiek, owner, makes sure no one leaves a stranger. Carla’s goal for the boutique is for everyone to feel welcome to come by and look around. She hopes to have something for everyone, especially with all the new additions to Catala House.
Carla is hosting a Fall Social and Fashion Show on September 30 from 1 to 4 p.m., and is excited to showcase the new changes. The Red Beauty Salon, formerly located in Catala House, recently moved to a new location, making the changes possible.
Catala House now has its liquor license and is selling wines from all over the world. Carla has gathered a group of knowledgeable wine lovers who will offer their suggestions. Over 20 wines will be sold, eventually adding spirits to the mix as well.
Stonewall Kitchen products will be featured, including a wonderful variety of jams to jellies, grill sauces, salad dressings, flavored cooking oils, varieties of mustard and much more.
Missouri, New Melle, Defiance and other local wear and merchandise are available as well. Local businesses supply many of the items in the boutique. In addition to the local wear, Carla will still carry clothing, but on a much smaller scale. She is ready to turn her focus to the new products she will be offering. These are a just a few of the additions coming to Catala House this fall.
The Fall Social will include a 30-minute fashion show, a Jane Iredale makeup event, free wine tasting, Stonewall Kitchen samples, skincare tutorials, reps from the wine vendors, great sales on everything, swag bags and much more.
In addition to managing the boutique, Carla is a licensed esthetician and makeup artist. Her facial spa offers makeup application and tutorials, customized skin treatments, microdermabrasions, exfoliation, waxing and more. Vanessa White, massage therapist, of Message Kneads, will move her location downstairs and Carla would like to turn the upstairs into a short-term rental.
When I talked to Carla, she said, “The move of The Red Beauty Salon was difficult because of my close working relationship and friendship with Sarah, but we both realized the move was necessary for either of us to grow. So far, things are working out for everyone.”
Carla also expressed her gratitude to the community for its continued support. In return, she realizes the importance of giving back to the area (which she often does.) The Catala House was built in 1889 and has been transformed. (See picture below.) It is now a welcoming site as you come into New Melle from Hwy Z. Come and see the new changes at Catala House on September 30 or stop by anytime.
