Ribbon Cutting at Defiance General Store September 16

On Saturday, September 16, Victoria and Jim Meder, proprietors of the Defiance General Store, held a ribbon cutting to celebrate the grand opening of the store. County Councilman, Joe Brazil, the store’s staff, family, friends and the community gathered to celebrate.
Joe Brazil congratulated Victoria and Jim and emphasized the importance and value this adds to the town of Defiance and the Katy Trail. Joe added, “I have lived in Defiance for 35 years, and there has never been a store in town, so please support this much needed local woman-owned business that this town desperately needs.”

Victoria said a few words before cutting the ribbon, “We want to thank everyone for coming today. This store has been needed for many years and is a dream come true for us. We did this for the community. This is more than a business venture, it is a passion. We have put a lot of energy and love into the store to give back to this outstanding community. The store will be ever-changing, so please stop by to say hello, stay and enjoy a cup of coffee on the front porch, or a sandwich and a cold beer on the back patio.”

Musicians Ed Callison and Darren Hank entertained as the crowd tried samples showcased by several vendors, including Noboleis Vineyards, Judgement Tree Vodka, Bavarian Smoke Haus, Upshot Coffee, Yuengling Beer and more.

The Defiance General Store is located at 2998 South Hwy 94 next to the bike shop on the Katy Trail. Victoria has done an excellent job selecting an array of merchandise for the store, many sourced from local businesses. The General Store offers old-time charm with modern conveniences: frozen foods, groceries, gourmet foods, snacks, ice cream, candy, health and beauty products, cigarettes, cigars, and gifts. The store also offers grab-and-go breakfast and lunch items daily, as well as cinnamon rolls, fresh ground coffee, lattes and other items. Single-serve beer, canned cocktails and wine by the glass can be enjoyed on the outdoor patio area next to the Katy Trail.

Visit the Defiance General Store and take a look at everything the store has to offer. If you have any suggestions, please let Victoria know.
