The VFW recognizes America’s dedicated educators who, through their teaching, instill a sense of national pride in students.
The Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Awards is a national competition and includes a $1,000 award for each of the top K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 grade teachers for professional development expenses. Also, a $1,000 award for each winning teacher’s school, a commemorative plaque and an all-expense paid trip to the VFW National Convention.
All current certified/licensed teachers in grades K-12 are eligible. Nominations can be submitted by fellow teachers, supervisors, family members, interested individuals or the teacher themselves.
The entry deadline is Tuesday, October 31. Entries can be submitted to the New Melle VFW, Post 5651, 555 Foristell Rd, New Melle, 63365. For more information and an entry form, visit
