New Melle VFW Buddy Poppy Sales on November 10

On Friday, November 10, the day before Veterans Day, Veteran’s from the New Melle VFW Post 5651 will be at the 4-way stop in New Melle, collecting Buddy Poppy donations. All money collected will be used for the Veteran’s Relief Fund. Please consider donating on Friday morning.
The story of the Buddy Poppy began in 1922 when the VFW organized a nationwide distribution of the poppy, and it soon became the official flower of the VFW of the United States. In 1923, the VFW decided that the VFW “Buddy”® Poppies would be assembled by disabled and needy veterans who would be paid for their work to provide them with financial assistance.

In February 1924, the name was registered with the U.S. Patent Office. A certificate was issued on May 20, 1924, granting the organization all trademark rights under the classification of artificial flowers in the name of Buddy. No other organization, firm or individual can legally use the name Buddy Poppy.
