On Saturday, October 19, the New Melle Fire Protection District (NMFPD) hosted an Open House at the new Station #1, located at the corner of Hwy Z and Foristell Rd.

Crews with the Columbia to Kingdom City Improve I-70 project started pouring the first section of concrete for what will be the third land and inside shoulder of I-70 West. I-70 is a vital transportation corridor in Missouri, connecting the state’s two largest cities and carrying more rural daily traffic than any other route in the state. The 250 miles of I-70 through Missouri have been an engine for economic growth and prosperity.

The New Melle Fire Protection District is hosting its 2nd Annual Pumpkin People Contest this October. Show off your creativity by decorating New Melle with your designs and displays of Pumpkin People at your home or business within the NMFPD. This year's theme is sports, but you can also surprise the judges with your own unique ideas.

Baby Gentry was born on August 21 with Pulmonary Atresia. His parents, Ashton and Cheri, had to move to Denver to treat Gentry at the Children's Hospital, one of the top five hospitals for this condition.

The Town of Augusta postcards are back. The 2024 postcards were revealed at the Augusta Harvest Festival on September 21. Residents and visitors alike purchased the cards. The Augusta postcards were popular in the 1970s. The debut sales surpassed expectations.

Did you know that the St. Louis area lies right in one of the greatest migration routes for birds on the entire North American Continent? It’s the Mississippi Flyway. Birds follow the Great River’s corridor in the spring and fall to travel to and from their nesting grounds and their summer homes. The peak of spring migration occurs in May, and the autumn peak is this month, in September.

The St. Charles City-County Library is thrilled to announce the One Read Challenge, an exciting community reading experience that aims to bring our county together through a shared love of literature. For our fourth annual One Read Challenge, we have chosen two books, each focusing on the compelling era of World War II.

Over the summer, I received letters from the local scouts in Troop 856 from New Melle. The troop went to a summer camp in West Virginia from July 7th to 13th at the Summit Bechtel Reserve, a High Adventure National Scout Camp.

Deer season is fast approaching, and the Hunt for Hunger Program is preparing for another successful year. For the past 7 years, David Neier, a junior at Francis Howell High School, has worked to broaden the awareness and distribution of venison throughout western St. Charles County food pantries.

On August 3, the New Melle Chamber of Commerce (NMCC) and New Melle Sports and Rec (NMSR) hosted their annual Fundraising Golf Tournament at the Golf Club of Wentzville. The response was impressive, with 38 teams competing.

Putting up hay was one of the most unpleasant jobs on a farm. At first, hay was cut with a scythe and then raked by hand with a large wooden rake. Later, it was cut with a sickle mower pulled by two horses and raked a day later with a rake with many tines which could drop a row of hay. The next round would be dropped in the same place to make a windrow.
