County Reverses Recommendations to Raise Speed Limits

By Dianne Sudbrock

The St. Charles County Council will take up Bill 4703 - Traffic Regulations at their regular meeting on Monday, April 8th at 7 p.m. The bill does NOT include any speed limit increases for Foristell, Oberhelman or Sneak Road, or Morrison Lane. It currently only includes a recommendation for a new stop sign at Deer Creek Drive and Fawn Creek Lane (off of Hwy. P north of O'Fallon.) The staff recommendation attached to the bill shows a reversal from a previous position that the roads could support higher speed limits. After significant public opposition at hearings in January and February, and subsequent further review from the county highway department staff, they are now recommending that the speed limits not be increased, stating that while portions of the roads could support higher limits, other areas do not. County Engineer Craig Tajkowski stated, "We believe maintaining a consistent 35 m.p.h. speed limit would be a better condition."

Also on the posted agenda, the Conditional Use Permit request for a wedding venue on Hwy. F on property owned by Robert and Kim Brinkmann, is listed as tabled.
