New Melle Board of Aldermen Highlights Feb. 11, 2021

The New Melle Board of Aldermen met Thursday, Feb. 11, 2021 at City Hall.

In Open Forum, Mayor West mentioned the upcoming meeting hosted by County Councilman Joe Brazil at New Melle Sports and Rec, March 4, 2021 at 7 p.m. Topics will include the County’s 5-year Master Plan, crime and law enforcement, and plans for the Park at New Melle Lakes.

The financial reports for January were reviewed and approved.

Regarding Peter Street Improvements, City Engr. Kurt Daniels reported most of the utilities are in the existing Right-of-Way and therefore could be relocated without additional property acquisition. Plans for improving the street are still under development.

Regarding the Sullivan lawsuit, a bench trial was held on Feb. 5. The judge's decision is expected in about a month.

Regarding Code Enforcement, the city is not being contacted prior to St. Charles County issuing warnings. Mayor West suggested the city discuss, at the next meeting, issuing an RFQ for a private firm to provide services.

Sharon Duggan was appointed to serve on the P&Z Commission.

An area resident, Leslie Limberg, talked about starting a Farmers/Artists Market in New Melle. The city suggested she contact the Chamber of Commerce and/or NMSR.

Regarding a proposal by Primus Group to develop an orthodontist office on city property at Hwys. D and Z, Mayor West suggested the city consider hiring a professional team to explore options for the use of that property.

The City Clerk will research costs for a new printer for the office.

The next BOA meeting should be Thursday, March 11, 2021.
