Mabel W. (Freese) Busdieker


Mabel Wilhelmina Busdieker passed away on February 5, 2024, at the age of 96. She was born December 25, 1927, in Foristell, MO to Herman E. and Lydia Freese née Giessmann.

Mabel was a lifelong member of St. John's UCC Cappeln, a youth teacher for over 50 years, and a member of multiple organizations in the church. After 1 year at Kirksville Teacher College, she taught at the one room Cappeln School and later at Foristell School. Mabel married Lawrence Busdieker, December 20, 1953. She actively supported her husband in farming until returning to work as a paraprofessional at Daniel Boone Elementary in New Melle, where she worked for over 20 years. She was a 4-H project leader for over for 40 years. Mabel lived on the same family farm of her childhood until 2003 when she moved to Laddonia, MO with the family farming operation. Mabel attended the Presbyterian church in Laddonia and enjoyed being part of their quilting group. Mabel enjoyed piecing quilts and wall hangings. She was a very modest person, always striving to make people feel good.

She is survived by her 4 children, Ruth Busdieker, Leon (Pam) Busdieker, Loyd Busdieker, Rosel Schmidt; two granddaughters, Stephanie (Nick) Huesemann, Nichole (Shannon) Jesse; four grandsons, Matt (Demi) Schmidt, Mike (Courtney) Schmidt, Marc (Shannon) Schmidt, Mitch (Brady) Schmidt; 6 1/2 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mabel was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Ray Freese; husband, Lawrence Busdieker; and son-in-law Bryan Schmidt. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
